In the introductory meeting of “Product Authentication System” on Tuesday January 15th and by participation of the Electric Power Network experts, Mr. Hossein Paryab stated: today, Islamic Republic of Iran, among 112 member countries of the GS1 organization, maintains standards for identification of goods, services, locations, packages and shipment units, storage, assets, etc. Currently more than 150 countries use GS1 standards and the United Nations, Universal Postal Union, World Trade Organization, World Customs Organization, are all among GS1 partner organizations. GS1 is a non-profit, non-governmental non-political organization with a 45-year history that has developed and maintained global standards for global supply chain management.
Mr. Paryab noted: barcoding Iranian goods in global markets started in 1995 by founding “National Center of Product and Services Coding of Iran” as a non-profit, non-governmental organization by Institute for Trade Studies and Research and Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture. The “Product Authentication System” has been launched and being used as a pilot project at Mashhad Electric Energy Distribution Company. It is expected that this system which is used to manage fixed assets in the product supply chain, be established and developed in the country’s electric power supply network.
Mr. Paryab, as CEO of GS1 Iran, continued: What the National Center of Product and Services Coding of Iran does as GS1 Iran, is to support businesses and effectively prevent fake and counterfeit products in the power distribution network.. Tracking and tracing of products, in addition to protecting the rights of companies and manufacturing firms, is also a safeguard for the protection of consumers' rights and accounted as a barrier against smuggling. As stated by Mr. Paryab, this Center has an important role in employment development and also production growth, while being in line with international standards, the required transparency would be taken place.
Mr. Paryab stated being a member of GS1 Organization facilitated the common international language, developed overseas market opportunities for domestic products, and further enhanced international interactions.
According to the report by IRNA, different aspects Product Authentication System was explained by the specialists of GS1 Iran in this meeting. This System enables tracing of products from upstream supply chains through the entire path where raw materials get converted to final product. It also plays a role in how goods are interchanged among importers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers until they reach end users.
The System allows consumers to track all their consumer and decorative goods and become aware of their originality and standard specifications.
